Challenger Publishing

Challenger Publishing

Challenger Publishing is a volunteer-based publishing company within McAuliffe Elementary. Our children have the opportunity to work one on one with a volunteer-parent to help them develop, write and publish their very own book.
    1. Don’t say, “I don’t know what to write!”
You can write about practically anything! Last year’s titles included The Hollywood Platypus, A Turtle Tale, Santa’s Adventure, Watch Out for Dinosaurs!, Taco’s Final Trip, My Texas Book and The Bug Machine….    You can make a book of poems, tell a story you made up, write about something that happened to you, or share your knowledge of sports, or nature, or history, or…. like we said – practically anything!
    2. Don’t say, “But I don’t know how to publish a book.”
We’ll help you with each step. Give your story to your teacher. Next, you’ll meet with a Challenger volunteer once a week for 3-4 weeks. Together, you’ll choose materials for your book, decide on pictures and discuss how to make your book awesome!! When your book is finished, you and your Challenger volunteer will present it to your classrooms.
     3. Don’t say, “I’ll do it later.”
As the school year goes on, more and more students want to become Challenger authors. Right now, volunteers are waiting to help you with your story. NOW is the time to begin your project.
So don’t let “the don’ts” slow you down. Do be creative. Do use your imagination. Write your first best seller! Then turn it in to your teacher.
Join our list of distinguished Challenger Authors!!

M&M's (McAuliffe Musicians)

M&M's (McAuliffe Musicians)

What is M&M? M&M—or McAuliffe Musicians—is a group of committed Highlanders who make music by singing, dancing, a little acting and some instrument playing.  M&M is for any 4th & 5th grade McAuliffe Highlander who likes to make music and perform.

Do you have what it takes  M&M members are allowed 2 excused and 2 un-excused absences for the year. A note will be required at the next rehearsal. Please plan other activities around M&M. A dentist appointment, for example, would NOT be excused because you could schedule that for a different day. I plan all my appointments around M&M—you can too!!

How do I get in? Sign-up on the music room bulletin board, pay the materials fee and commit to the rehearsal schedule.

Practice makes Perfect!!   4th graders —Tuesdays from 3:00—4:00pm.  5th graders —Thursdays from 3:00 –4:00pm. Extremely Important! Combined rehearsals close to performance dates. These rehearsals will be required!!!

Money, Money, Money!  M&M is completely self funded—there is no school budget. New members will need to pay a materials fee of $25.00. This will cover the cost of music, folder & a T-shirt for perform-ances. Returning 5th graders whose M&M t-shirt from last year is still in good shape and still fits, only need to pay $18.00. **Please bring the fee to your first rehearsal.

Location: Music Room

Date(s): M&M's will begin the Tuesday and Thursday after we come back from the Labor Day holiday.
