Challenger Publishing is a volunteer-based publishing company within McAuliffe Elementary. Our children have the opportunity to work one on one with a volunteer-parent to help them develop, write and publish their very own book.
1. Don’t say, “I don’t know what to write!”
You can write about practically anything! Last year’s titles included The Hollywood Platypus, A Turtle Tale, Santa’s Adventure, Watch Out for Dinosaurs!, Taco’s Final Trip, My Texas Book and The Bug Machine…. You can make a book of poems, tell a story you made up, write about something that happened to you, or share your knowledge of sports, or nature, or history, or…. like we said – practically anything!
2. Don’t say, “But I don’t know how to publish a book.”
We’ll help you with each step. Give your story to your teacher. Next, you’ll meet with a Challenger volunteer once a week for 3-4 weeks. Together, you’ll choose materials for your book, decide on pictures and discuss how to make your book awesome!! When your book is finished, you and your Challenger volunteer will present it to your classrooms.
3. Don’t say, “I’ll do it later.”
As the school year goes on, more and more students want to become Challenger authors. Right now, volunteers are waiting to help you with your story. NOW is the time to begin your project.
So don’t let “the don’ts” slow you down. Do be creative. Do use your imagination. Write your first best seller! Then turn it in to your teacher.
Join our list of distinguished Challenger Authors!!

1st - 5th Graders Young Rembrandts is the art program with a difference. In the same way you teach math, science and reading, we teach core drawing skills. Our program dispels the myth that art is a talent a child has or doesn't have. We view drawing - the fundamental skills of all visual arts - as a teachable skill that any child can and should learn. Our elementary-age curriculum is designed to teach basic to advanced drawing skills, art techniques and vocabulary. Young Rembrandts offers drawing classes for children ages 6 to 12. As students are introduced to a new subject matter each week, they learn a variety of art concepts including: *Portraiture *Perspective *Still life *Realism/Abstract *Color theory *Fundamental composition skills *Line and patterning *Art vocabulary *Art history. Participating in Young Rembrandts provides children with a comprehensive art literacy that serves them well not just at the drawing table, but in school and on into adulthood.
